Cabbage Pie

This easy cabbage pie recipe contains green cabbage, carrots and tomatoes. It was sent to me by my friend Kate Soukmanova. It's a favorite in her family and she often makes it on weekends. Best served warm or cool.
Cabbage Pie


  • 1/2 green cabbage (medium head, cored)
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 tomato (medium, for decoration)
  • 2 cups kefir
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cup flour (adjust depending on the dough consistency)
  • salt (to taste)
  • pepper (to taste)

1. Shred the cabbage.

2. Grate the carrots.

3. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Add cabbage and carrots, mix, season with salt and pepper, cook until half done (about 7 minutes).

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
5. Meanwhile, prepare the dough. In a medium bowl, mix kefir, egg and salt. Add the baking soda, pouring vinegar over it. Add flour, a small amount at a time, mixing into smooth dough.

6. Pour the dough into a tart pan. Put the filling on top. Cut the tomato in 4 and then each segment into half. Put on top of the filling.

7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, until the center and top look set. Let cool then cut into pieces.
