Breakfast Bagel Sandwich with Salmon and Cream Cheese

I'm always on the lookout for easy breakfast recipes that the whole family will love, and this is one of my favorite ways to serve breakfast bagels. Made with simple ingredients like fresh red onion, crisp Persian cucumber, and smoked salmon, these bagel breakfast sandwiches offer a delightful twist on the classic favorite breakfasts.

  • 2 bagels (I use everything bagels)
  • 5 tablespoons cream cheese (soft, spreadable)
  • 4 ounces smoked salmon
  • 1/3 onion (red, medium)
  • 1 cucumber (small, I use Persian cucumber)

You can use a plain bagel for this recipe, but in my version, I use everything bagel for that extra burst of flavor (top of the bagel has a blend of poppy seeds, sesame seeds, dried minced garlic, dried minced onion, and kosher salt).

Whether you grab your favorite bagels from the grocery store, your local bagel shop, or even bake them at home, the result will be delicious.

I even tried making them the night before, for a quick protein-packed breakfast on a weekday morning, and they still tasted amazing! Just wrap them in plastic wrap and refrigerate for the night.

Want some variation ideas? A great way to enhance the flavor even more is by adding several capers (my favorite), some fresh chopped dill or chili flakes.


Ingredients for bagel breakfast sandwich recipe.
1. Finely chop red onion and cucumber. Chop smoked salmon into small pieces.

2. Using the same knife, combine the chopped red onions, cucumber, and smoked salmon. Add cream cheese and mix everything with the knife until well combined.

3. Cut fresh bagels in half and toast them until lightly golden brown. I use my toaster oven, but you can also use an air fryer at 380°F (190°C) for about 3 minutes or a skillet (medium heat) to toast the bagels.
4. Spread the cream cheese and salmon mixture evenly onto the toasted bagel halves.

5. Place the other half of each bagel on top to form the ultimate breakfast sandwich.
