Baked Broccoli Patties

These baked broccoli patties with cheese are an awesome, healthy and delicious dinner side dish. Another great way to get kids to eat their veggies (see also Crispy Baked Zucchini Sticks).

If you're looking for an easy recipe to use up broccoli florets, this broccoli patties recipe is a delicious option. Made from chopped broccoli florets, it's also a perfect choice if you want to add extra veggies to your diet and enjoy a healthy and delicious side dish.

Plus, you can easily store any leftover broccoli cheese patties in an airtight container for a quick and tasty snack next time.

This delicious recipe is undoubtedly a must-try for anyone who wants to enjoy broccoli in a new and exciting way.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces broccoli (I used frozen, defrosted, see instructions if you use fresh)
  • 1/2 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs (better to use Panko)
  • 2 eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese (shredded, I use sharp cheddar cheese)
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon avocado oil
  • salt
  • pepper

Yield: 6 patties | Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 30 minutes | Total time: 40 minutes

Instructions

1. Finely chop onion and mince garlic. In a small skillet, heat oil and saute onion and garlic until soft (about 7 minutes). Set aside to cool.
Sautéed onion and garlic.
2. If you use defrosted broccoli, remove extra moisture with paper towels (for fresh broccoli, blanch by adding it to boiling water for 2-3 minutes). Chop drained broccoli into bite size pieces. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
Drained and chopped broccoli in a large bowl.
3. Add breadcrumbs, lightly beaten eggs, Parmesan cheese, Cheddar cheese, onion and garlic to the bowl. Season with salt and black pepper to taste (not too much since cheese already has salt). Mix until combined.
Patties mixture of broccoli, eggs, cheese, onion and garlic in a bowl.
4. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (if using aluminum foil, brush it with some oil).
5. Form the mixture into patties. To shape perfect patties use a lid (mine comes from a large mayonnaise jar). Cover the lid with plastic wrap (this will help to easier remove the patty). Fill it with the mixture, pressing it down lightly. Flip the patty out and repeat with the rest of the mixture.

6. Transfer patties to the prepared baking sheet.

7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.

8. Flip and bake for another 10 minutes, until golden brown. Serve with sour cream, Greek yogurt or your favorite dipping sauce.
Fully baked broccoli patties removed from the oven.

My husband and I both loved this recipe! I had to make a few changes based on what I already had- added portobello mushrooms, red pepper flakes, and used shredded mozzarella instead of cheddar. I didn’t have a large lid, so I used a mason jar lid. It worked great, because I could just pop out the patty and reinsert the flat metal section- no paper needed. Thank you for this fabulous recipe!

I made it and I LOVED IT LOL I added my own spices- used the lid to make the Pattie’s however I boiled two potatoes and mashed them down and added it to the broccoli mix before baking It added some texture in my opinion- made it easier to combine together

I made these as per the recipe with the exception of sprinkling the tops with sweet smoked paprika. My only problem is the cakes tended to fall apart. So should I add another egg to make them hold together?

These are so good and easy. I save and collect all the little tiny pieces from frozen broccoli, and use them when I have enough pieces. Made these twice. I add the drained raw frozen broccoli shreds to the onions while they're cooling. Then beat the eggs into my bowl, and then add all the other ingredients. Delicious with plain Greek yogurt mixed with Trader Joe's garlic dip. We love them!

Great recipe

Love the hint from the mayo jar lid to shape them. Thank you. I already have a similar recipe and this can be Keto friendly. I just substitute pork rinds for the Panko crumbs. You can use this recipe with other veggies too like zucchini, cauliflower or potatoes. I also sometimes add lemon or lime juice and a little chili paste.

I never write reviews, but I feel like I must on this one! I made a batch for my one year old and twin three year olds. I baked them the night before and reheated in the air fryer. They were a big hit with everyone! I made them exactly as the recipe states, except I ended up with 12 patties, so mine must have been much smaller.

Broccoli patties

This is a great recipe. I make a crumbly mixture of the bread crumbs and cheeses and add a few dried herbs like basil and oregano. I don't blanch the broccoli but add it to the fried onions and garlic, mix in in well, and leave it covered for a minute or so. I also add a pinch of cayenne to the frying and do everything in olive oil over low heat. If the final mixture is too dry I just add an egg. Parchment paper is definitely superior to foil. I bake them for less time at 350, just enough to firm them. I then freeze them with a parchment separator for each. They are quick to thaw and fry golden brown. Two heads of broccoli make 10 patties.

Delicious broccoli burgers so easy could make blind folded

Guest
These were great! I will make each week. The foil wasn’t good, as they stuck even though I buttered and oil oil... the parchment paper was excellent. No sticking what so ever. Next week I’ll try tomato sauce on. I might also add mashed beans for more protein though the cheese is great for protein.i hate clean up. I used one bowl , one frying pan onions/garlic and a measuring cup. Thank you so much for posting. (:
